UNDERSTANDING

Understanding is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit which helps develop the faith within us. It is the ability to comprehend the actions of God and then that of humanity.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2 

Pope Francis explained the gift of understanding as the gift that helps the Christian to be intimate with God. The Holy Spirit helps us in our daily growth to understand the ways of the Lord. It does not mean that Christians will have knowledge of all things or what God wants to do but it helps to think inwardly and understand things the way God does.  Moreover, the gift of understanding aids in grasping the truths of faith which draws us to intimacy with God. A Christian with the gift of understanding will not be confused on the right way to live especially with the conflicting messages of our culture today. It also helps us to order our actions towards our final end, which is God. With understanding, we are sure of our belief, and also see how our souls relate to God.
